1000 Names of Lord Vasudeva
The complete Śrī Vāsudeva Sahasranāma from the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam and the Viṣṇu Purāṇa — every one of the thousand sacred names of the all-pervading Lord. In the Gauḍīya Vaiṣṇava tradition, Śrī Vāsudeva is the first expansion of Śrī Kṛṣṇa, the Supreme Personality of Godhead (Kṛṣṇas tu bhagavān svayam — SB 1.3.28), appearing as the catur-vyūha original. The names here are given in Sanskrit (Devanāgarī), IAST transliteration and English meaning. Chant with reverence, or use the search below to find any name.
Vāsudeva: The First Expansion of Śrī Kṛṣṇa
In the sacred conclusion of the Bhagavad-gītā (BG 18.66), the Lord says, sarva-dharmān parityajya mām ekaṁ śaraṇaṁ vraja — surrender unto Me alone. Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 1.3.28 establishes that among the innumerable expansions of the Godhead, Kṛṣṇas tu bhagavān svayam — Kṛṣṇa is the original Supreme Personality of Godhead Himself.
From that original Śrī Kṛṣṇa expands the first quadruple manifestation known as the catur-vyūha: Vāsudeva, Saṅkarṣaṇa, Pradyumna and Aniruddha. Of these, Lord Vāsudeva is the original, all-pervading personality who presides over the spiritual planets and manifests the opulence of divine majesty (aiśvarya). He is Kṛṣṇa’s expansion, yet non-different from Kṛṣṇa in essence, just as the candle flame is one with its source.
The verse oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya — the seed of the Vāsudeva mantra — is the doorway through which the devotee approaches the Lord in His expansion as the all-pervading Supreme. Chanting these thousand names therefore draws one closer to Kṛṣṇa, the source of Vāsudeva, just as watering the root of a tree nourishes every leaf and branch.

How to chant
Traditionally the Sahasranāma is recited after bath, seated facing east, with a lamp lit before an image of the Lord. Begin with Oṃ, meditate on the dvādaśākṣarī mantra oṃ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya, and then read the thousand names slowly, letting each name settle in the heart. English meanings are aids to devotion — the fruit lies in the sound and the surrender.
