How to chant

Traditionally the Sahasranāma is recited after bath, seated facing east, with a lamp lit before an image of Śrī Rāma with Sītā, Lakṣmaṇa and Hanumān. Begin with Oṃ and the dhyāna verse, then read the thousand names slowly — letting the sound of each name settle in the heart. English meanings are aids to devotion; the fruit lies in the sound and the surrender.
