Mahāgaṇapati — the Tantric Ganapati

Mahāgaṇapati is the foremost of the tantric forms of Gaṇeśa, invoked in the Gāṇapatya Āgama and in Śrīvidyā upāsanā where he is worshipped before the Devī herself. He is red as the rising sun, ten-armed, crescent-crowned, seated with his śakti upon his left thigh, holding the pāśa and aṅkuśa, the sugarcane bow and flower arrows, the pomegranate, the lotus, the ratna-kumbha and his own broken tusk.

Chapter

1 · Sa-śakti Gaṇapati

Unlike the Purāṇic Gaṇeśa, Mahāgaṇapati is worshipped together with his śakti — the union of jñāna and kriyā, the very kāma-kalā from which creation proceeds.

Chapter

2 · The Bīja and the Mantra

His upāsanā rests on the bīja gaṃ and the great mantra oṃ śrīṃ hrīṃ klīṃ glauṃ gaṃ gaṇapataye vara-varada sarvajanaṃ me vaśamānaya svāhā.

Chapter

3 · Before the Śrīcakra

In Śrīvidyā practice Mahāgaṇapati is invoked first, clearing every vighna of the path so the sādhaka may enter the worship of Lalitā Tripurasundarī unhindered.

Chapter

4 · The Fruit of the Names

Tradition holds that this nāmāvaliḥ bestows aiśvarya, vaśīkaraṇa of the senses, protection of family and wealth, and the eight siddhis with buddhi as their crown.
